Texas and Beyond
Sunday December 4, 2005
Whispering moments of long ago Flowing gently through my mind, The quietness of drifting white snow Happy years that were left behind.
The snow slowly turned to water Unnoticed throughout the years, We never seemed to really bother To face our unending fears.
Our dreams are nothing but slivers And the snow will drift no more, The waters are swift flowing rivers And the future I alone must explore.

Oh how beautiful the morning glories are As they greet the spring-drenched days, Their bright blue petals hungrily reach for the warmth Of the comforting sunlight rays.
The coolness of the evening mist Will never see the beauty of the flower, The petals tenderly close their eyes And sleep until the waking hour.

Our weather has been even crazier than it usually is here in Texas. Thought I would share this poem I wrote sometime back.
Stormy Texas skies Displaying shades of gray, Unpredictable weather Has become the Texas way. Web-like streaks of lightning Cascading across, then down, Touching indiscriminately Upon the Texas ground. A rustling tune is inspired by Blowing winds through thirsty trees, Texans enjoying the coolness Of a visiting Texas breeze. Leaves gracefully dance along Narrow rocky country lanes, Dust-covered pickup trucks welcome Droplets hitting the window panes. From moment to moment You never quite know, The sun could be shining Interspersed with flakes of snow. Texans never try to guess What the weather will bring their way, December sometimes feels Like the month of May. It can be a bit confusing To non-Texas folk, They just need to remember They should never quickly revolt. They just have to wait a minute As they travel across the range, Soon they will experience The no-nonsense Texas weather change!

My oldest sister passed away last year after a valiant fight with cancer. I had given her one of my cards with a photo I had taken of a rainbow and country road with The Rainbow Road printed inside. She loved the poem so much, she had asked her husband to make sure it was read at her funeral. I was fortunate enough to be able to visit with her two weeks before her death. She lived in Utah, so I was unable to go back for her funeral, but I felt a little piece of me was by her side when my poem was read.
God Blessed me with a rainbow road An encouraging sight to lift my load, Sharing a special place in a stormy sky A gentle reminder as life goes by. It made me smile, it brought a peace Within my heart, a stress release, The colorful Texas rainbow has a magical way Helping me face challenges created everyday. Responding to the invitation presented by the road I slowly walked toward the colors so bold, A whisper of a breeze caressed my face As if God said, "You have run a good race. You've made many choices, some good, some bad Yet your continuing faith has made Me glad, It's not quite your time to come My way So make the most of your earthly stay." So I turned around, giving a backwards glance Oh how glorious a rainbow road can enhance, The quality of one's existence from the very start Living life to the fullest with a thankful heart.

Sleepy little Texas hollows Vibrant fall-attired valleys below, Gently rolling grasslands Majestic mountains capped with snow. Barbed wire fences adorned with cactus Fields boasting of Texas wildflowers, Sounds of windmills hard at work nearby Spring storms generate cooling showers. The distinctive calls of Texas longhorns Drift upon a stream of hot summer air, Mingling with the friendly, "Howdies!" Shared among strangers at the county fair. From intricate roadways in bustling Texas cities To the narrow, rocky country lanes, From the cities' daily traffic jams To horses displaying their wind-swept manes. No matter where or when you travel Within the boundaries of Texas pride, There will always be an adventure awaiting An experience that will endure deep inside.
