This is for Sharona for sharing her wonderful thoughts in verse with us. This poem was written many years ago. One of the few I have written in free verse.
The wind gently weaves in and out
Of the branches and leaves of the old mesquite,
Which stands within the view of the
Ever seeing kitchen window.
The half-rusted bar-b-que pit
Stands within the reach of the old mesquite,
Being completely unwavered
By the ever-blowing April winds.
Beyond the stretches of the old mesquite's shadow
Sits the ever-gliding swings,
Which hang from the colorful steel posts
Of the children's swing set.
Half-hidden by the old mesquite's lower branches
Is our fun-loving dune buggy,
So still, so quiet, but soon its engine will roar
The air will be filled with the laughter of children.
The days will pass by
Slowly the laughter will forever be lost to the past,
Time will rust away all signs of material things
And the old mesquite will once again stand alone.

Sharona, here is one of my Texas poems, also written several years ago. Hope you and others will enjoy it.
The Texas Experience
Translucent shades of orange laced with spun gold
Resurrection of a story, the best ever told,
Embellishing details among colors so bold
Remembering a Texas journey, a wondrous life to unfold.
Kindness and goodness courageously walk hand in hand
With unwavering certainty traveling through this great land,
God's architectural glory of light so grand
Enjoying the euphoria of one lone grain of sand.
As unforgettable Texas memories abound
Pleasure can be experienced all around,
East to west, north to south they are found
From salty coastal regions to the desert night sounds.
The Texas experience is one of a kind
Nothing quite like it you will ever find,
Enjoy each moment with a Texas mind
Extremely diverse, forever sublime.
